How to Remove False Teeth Out of a Mouth

The gums, tongue and tissue in the mouth are extremely sensitive. Removing false teeth or dentures, as they are more commonly called, needs to be done with care to avoid oral irritations. Dentistry guidelines normally recommend that false teeth be removed every night to give the mouth a chance to rest and provide an opportunity for false teeth to be cleaned thoroughly. For those with newly fitted false teeth, making this everyday routine seamless and stress free is easy with a few simple steps.

Instructions

The best place to remove dentures is in the bathroom, in front of a mirror. Fill the bathroom sink with water and place a towel around the edge of the sink. If the teeth fall out during removal they will safely land in the water and not chip or break. Any other hard surface areas such as floors or tiles can also be covered with a rug or soft fabric to prevent the false teeth from breaking if they are accidentally dropped.

    • 2

Swish the mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash or warm water. This will help to break the seal between the dental adhesive and teeth, making the removal of false teeth easier.

    • 3

Remove the top denture by inserting the thumb into the mouth and pressing against the back of the top false teeth. Apply pressure with an upward movement, gently rocking the denture until it releases. Be careful not to scratch or irritate the gums. Remove the lower denture by pulling on the teeth, with a backwards and forward movement. Gently rock the false teeth until they release and can be taken out of the mouth.

    • 4

Soak the false teeth in a glass of water, with a cleanser, prepared according to the instructions. Leave the teeth to soak for five to ten minutes. While the false teeth are soaking, get rid of any residue on the gums by brushing the area with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Brushing will encourage blood to circulate to the gums, making them healthier. Ensure that all denture adhesive is removed from the mouth by swishing and rinsing with a mouthwash.

    • 5

Clean all the denture adhesive residue from the false teeth. After soaking for 10 minutes in the cleanser, any residue should slide off. Brush the teeth for at least two minutes with a brush and toothpaste. Store the false teeth in water overnight to prevent them from changing shape or cracking.
