1
Cultivate your sense of smell by sniffing your kitchen spices several times a week. Use fresh spices if possible for this sniffing exercise.
-
2
Smell the food you are going to eat. Take short sniffs to draw the scents into your nose.
-
3
Chew a small mouthful of food, pulling in a small blast of air with the food. The air will help circulate the aromas and enhance your tasting ability.
-
4
Move the food around your mouth, touching it to the sides, front and back of your mouth. These areas are where your various tasting receptors are located. Moving the food around also releases more scents and flavors.
-
5
Drink a few sips of water to remove excess food from your mouth before tasting again.
-
6
Take a one-hour break and taste a different food. Use the same method of breathing in slightly and moving the food around the inside of your mouth.
