How do I Insert Dentures?
Though dentures can take getting used to at first, if inserted and worn properly the discomfort should subside in a few days. It is also important that you also keep dentures out of your mouth for a few hours each day.-
Denture Adhesive
-
There are many types of denture adhesives: Cushion Grip, Sea-Bond, Fixident and Poligrip. Once you find the type of adhesive that works for you, apply the adhesive to the dentures by first making sure the dentures are thoroughly clean. Apply three small dots of adhesive to the gum strip of your upper dentures then a longer line across the plate. For the bottom teeth, apply the same three small dots of adhesive into the gum strip.
Rinse Mouth
-
Just prior to inserting the dentures be sure to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water. Ensure any particles are rinsed out of mouth and gums are clean before inserting dentures.
Insert Dentures
-
Insert upper dentures into place, hold against gums firmly for a few seconds. Follow by inserting lower dentures into place, press firmly against gums for a few seconds. Once both sets of dentures are inserted bite down firmly for a few seconds to secure.
