Directions for Denture Repair
Dentures are used primarily by senior citizens who have lost their teeth due to damage or decay. Dentures are custom fit to an individual's mouth and can be extremely expensive to both purchase and repair. 1
Purchase an emergency denture repair kit from your local pharmacy. Most basic kits can be purchased for under $10.
-
2
Remove the components of the repair kit from the packaging and separate the various pieces. Your kit should include acrylic resin, bonding adhesive, an eyedropper and two sets of replacement teeth.
-
3
Examine your dentures to determine exactly where the break is. Typical damage includes structural breaks or lost teeth.
-
4
Repair damages to the structure of the denture by applying bonding adhesive to either end of the break. Press the broken pieces together and hold in place for one minute.
-
5
Replace broken teeth by first filing away any remnants of the existing tooth.
-
6
Fill the remaining tooth hole with acrylic resin. Allow to set according to the manufacturer's directions.
-
7
Select a replacement tooth that matches the previous tooth. Most kits will come with a set of upper and lower teeth, so you should be able to find a fit.
-
8
Apply bonding adhesive to the base of the tooth hole and press the tooth into place. Allow the adhesive to set completely according to the manufacturer's instructions.
-
9
Smooth out any rough parts by sanding away with the sandpaper. Irritation may be caused by even the smallest bump or extrusion, so be sure to smooth the surface.
-
10
Immerse the denture in a bowl of warm water to set the adhesive completely. Allow to remain underwater for 10 minutes.
-
11
Remove the denture from the water. Bathe and polish with denture toothpaste before insertion.
