How to Clean the NTI Night Guard

The NTI night guard was invented by Dr. James Boyd and approved by the FDA in 2006. It is a small, custom-fitted plastic device that slides on to the top front teeth and reduces the intensity of nighttime jaw clenching. In clinical studies, 82 percent of subjects experienced a 77 percent reduction in migraine headache pain when they used the NTI night guard. Dentists charge a patient $500 to $800 for the custom fitting, so it's important to take good care of it.

Rinse your night guard under running water.

Remove and rinse the night guard. NTI night guards are designed to be worn at night, although if necessary you could wear it during the day to get used to having it in your mouth. When you remove the device, the consultants at NTI-TSS.com recommend using a soft toothbrush with soapy water, followed by a rinse with clear water.

    • 2
Soak the NTI in hydrogen peroxide, then rinse.

Pour some hydrogen peroxide onto your appliance during the day if you are concerned about germs. Set it out of reach of children and pets. Rinse it with water before you put it back into your mouth at night. Remember that it is going into your mouth, so do not clean the NTI with anything toxic.

    • 3
Never use toothpaste to clean your night guard.

Do not damage the appliance. The makers of the NTI night guard do not recommend using toothpaste to clean it.
