When treating a patient plagued with severe bad breath or gum disease, a dentist might recommend using a bleach and water mouth rinse. As long as you aren't overly sensitive to bleach and make sure you get the proportions right, this mixture is safe to use on a regular basis.

  • Measuring cup
  • Tablespoon
  • Sealable plastic container

      Measure 1 1/2 cups of water and pour into the sealable plastic container.

      Measure 1 tbsp. of bleach and pour into the sealable plastic container with the water.

      Stir the water and bleach together thoroughly.

      Rinse mouth with 1 tbsp. of the bleach and water mixture for 20 seconds. Spit the mixture out after 20 seconds, being careful not to swallow any.

      Rinse mouth thoroughly with clean water for 30 seconds and spit.

      Repeat rinse with the bleach and water mixture every other day to keep mouth clean and fight gum disease.
