How to Find Emergency NHS Dentists

The National Health Service is the centralized health care provider for the United Kingdom. Finding an emergency dentist on the National Health Service (NHS) can be done using several methods. The NHS has set up its NHS Direct service to assist patients. Its website provides information such as health care provider information, medical condition information, treatment information and contact information for local NHS trusts. There is 24-hour phone assistance available through the NHS Direct helpline in case of a dental emergency.

Search online at NHS Direct's website using the search feature. Information on dentists from this website include whether or not they provide emergency care. To search for a dentist, go to http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/ and select "Find a healthcare service" from the main page. Select "Dentists," enter your postcode and click "search" to show a listing of local NHS dentists. This search also will provide an emergency telephone number at the local NHS trust if you are unable to contact any of the listed dentists or they are not accepting new patients.
