    Features

    • Cetalkonium chloride and choline salicylate are the two active ingredients found in Bonjela gel and cool mint gel. Choline salicylate is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug; anti-inflmmatories are medication that reduce pain and fever.

    Function

    • Choline salicylate blocks the action of cyclo-oxygenase which is involved in producing prostaglandins in the body. Prostaglandins are produced in response to an injury, they increase blood supply to the injured area resulting in heat, redness, swelling and pain. Choline salicylate blocks cyclo-oxygenase which halts the formation of prostaglandins reducing pain or inflammation in the area it is applied to. The cetalkonium chloride kills the bacteria and fungi that can infect a sore or broken skin within the mouth.

    • There are several useful applications for the Bonjela solution. The choline salicylate treats pain and the discomfort that can be caused by denture irritation, mouth ulcers, sore spots from having braces and cold sores. The cetalkonium chloride antiseptic helps prevent infection, keeps the affected area clean and helps them heal.
