1
Brush your teeth regularly. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends brushing at least twice a day with an ADA approved fluoride toothpaste. Brushing gets rid of food particles that collect bacteria in your mouth and cause bad breath. Also brush your gums and tongue too, as food can collect in these areas as well.

2
Follow brushing with flossing. Flossing furthers the food removal efforts provided by brushing, prying stubborn food particles from between the surfaces of your teeth.
-
3
Gargle with mouthwash. Gargling with an over-the-counter mouthwash kills mouth bacteria and leaves you with fresher breath.
-
4
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Some instances of bad breath are caused by dry mouth and a lack of saliva.
-
5
Chew gum. Gum causes you to produce saliva that may help wash away some of the odor causing bacteria in your mouth.
-
6
Visit your dentist if bad breath persists. As a part of regular dental exams, your dentist will be able to check your mouth for more serious problems like gum disease or cavities that can also cause bad breath.
