Herbal Remedies for Gum Disease

Nobody likes going to the dentist, especially when you know your teeth are in sorry shape and your mouth is riddled with gum disease. While it may seem that nothing can fix your sore, bleeding and receding gums, you can give it a shot with a variety of herbs.

Instructions

Rinse with bloodroot. This is a good bacteria killer that is also used in some mouth washes. Mix dried bloodroot with a cup of water and swish around your mouth several times each day. Do not swallow, but swish and spit.

Swish around some myrrh. Don't mug a wise man on his way to Bethlehem for this handy herb, but do find some in liquid form. This herb works as an astringent and reduces swelling. You only need 2 drops per day, mixed with water, to swish and spit.

Create plantain paste. Plantain is another herb that can help with swollen, red gums. This herb comes as a poultice and should be mixed with a bit of water to form a paste, spread on a thin piece of gauze and stick between the cheek and gum to alleviate discomfort.

Brush with rhatany. This herb is used for bleeding gums caused both by gum disease and from extracted teeth. The herb comes in a liquid form and works wonders on sores. Brush with 10 drops mixed with a bit of water at least once a day.
