Does medicare cover gum disease treatment by a periodontist?
Medicare covers periodontal disease treatment for beneficiaries who:
* Have specific medical conditions that can result in more serious consequences from periodontal disease, or who are at higher risk for developing periodontal disease.
* Are undergoing transplant treatment or have compromised immune systems.
* Have other specific risk factors for developing more severe periodontal disease and whose treatment is not covered under another state or federal health program.
Gum disease treatment is covered under Medicare Part B, Medical Insurance. There is no separate coverage for periodontal disease treatment.
