What cause strep throat?

Strep throat is primarily caused by bacteria known as Streptococcus pyogenes, also referred to as Group A Streptococcus (GAS). These bacteria can spread from person to person through respiratory droplets produced by coughing, sneezing, or talking in close proximity. Direct contact with infected surfaces, such as doorknobs or improperly washed dishes, can also transmit the bacteria.

When GAS bacteria enter the body, they typically target the throat and tonsils, causing the symptoms associated with strep throat. The infection can lead to inflammation and swelling in the throat, resulting in pain, difficulty swallowing, and the characteristic red and swollen appearance of the throat.
