Homeopathic Cures for Periodontitis
According to the Mayo Clinic, periodontitis can be controlled and cured with simple lifestyle changes. It's true that periodontitis will improve with simple tooth brushing and flossing techniques, but there also are many homeopathic remedies that will treat and cure periodontitis-
Coenzyme Q10
-
In Japan, Coenzyme Q10, a fat-soluble, vitamin-like substance found in human cells, is used to treat a variety of diseases and illnesses, including gum disease.
Osaka University in Japan conducted a study regarding CoQ10 and gum disease over a period of three weeks. A topical CoQ10 toothpaste was used and, after the three weeks, swelling, bleeding and inflammation commonly associated with gum disease had been reduced or was completely gone. Patients were told to brush twice a day for approximately three to four minutes each session and to floss at least one time a day. Topical CoQ10 toothpaste is available at natural food or health stores.
According to the Mayo Clinic website, adults 18 and older should take up to 1,200 mg of CoQ10 per day. Doses should be divided throughout the day.
Lemon Juice
-
Lemon juice doesn't sound like the most appealing of mouthwashes, but it may be the most effective for preventing gum disease. Lemon juice kills bacteria and dissolves plaque naturally in addition to strengthening the gums and teeth.
To use, simply add the juice of one squeezed lemon (about 1/8 of a cup) to one cup of warm water. Use as a mouthwash after brushing and flossing teeth daily.
Oils, Teas and Essential Oils
-
Sage tea with sea salt is also an effective treatment for periodontal disease. To make, add 2 tbsp. of sea salt to a cup of sage tea. Use the mixture as a mouthwash to reduce swelling and inflammation in the gums. This will also tighten gums and promote gum healing.
If sage tea is too time-consuming to make and use, add a drop or two of grapefruit extract to your normal toothpaste and brush your teeth as you normally would.
Myrrh oil is also helpful in fighting periodontal disease. Massage a drop or two of myrrh oil into your gums two or three times per day. This will be particularly helpful with gums that are swollen and bleeding.
