Everyday my nose drips blood. My dad says not to blow it. So I pick it and put on tissue bleeds does that make worse spit blood too. Is a bad sign what is it?

Nasal Bleeding (Epistaxis)

Causes:

- Common in dry climates when the nasal passages become dry and irritated.

- Frequent nose picking or trauma to the nose.

- Allergies, sinusitis, or a deviated septum.

- Blood clotting disorders or certain medications (e.g., aspirin, blood thinners).

- Hypertension (high blood pressure).

Your father's advice:

- Blowing your nose after bleeding is not recommended.

- Blowing can irritate the delicate blood vessels in the nose, worsening the bleeding.

Picking the nose:

- Picking the nose can damage the blood vessels and make bleeding worse. It is best to avoid picking your nose.

Spitting blood:

- Spitting blood can be a symptom of a more serious underlying condition, such as a lung infection or a bleeding disorder. If you are spitting blood, it is crucial to see a doctor.

Signs of a more serious bleeding problem:

- Bleeding does not stop after 20-30 minutes of pressure

- Bleeding is accompanied by a fever

- Bleeding is associated with severe headache, stiff neck

- You are coughing up blood or vomiting blood

- You have a family history of bleeding disorders

- You are taking medications that can affect blood clotting

What to do:

- If your nosebleed does not stop after 20-30 minutes of pressure, or if you experience any of the signs mentioned above, seek immediate medical attention.

Preventive measures:

- Keep the air in your home or workplace humidified.

- Use a saline nasal spray to keep the nasal passages moist.

- Avoid nose picking and any activities that can cause trauma to the nose.

- Address underlying conditions, such as allergies or a deviated septum, to reduce nosebleed frequency.

- If you are taking medications that affect blood clotting, discuss with your doctor about possible nosebleed risks.

- Manage high blood pressure if you have hypertension to reduce nosebleed risk.
