Ways to Repair Receded Gums in Between Teeth
Plaque build up causes receded gums. Bacteria in plaque slowly damages the sensitive gums between the teeth. Signs of plaque build up include bad breath and gum pain or bleeding. A regular oral cleansing routine can help you avoid plaque build up for optimum dental health.-
Brush Regularly
-
Brushing your teeth twice a day--once in the morning and once at night before bed--will eliminate most of the harmful bacteria that can cause gum recession. Whether your gums are healthy or are into stages of recession, brushing your teeth regularly will repair gums between the teeth. Dentists recommend brushing them gently for about two minutes, taking care to brush the top and bottom teeth. You should brush your tongue, too, or use a tongue scraper, since your tongue harbors bacteria.
Floss
-
Remove harmful plaque from in between your teeth by carefully flossing once a day. Do this by wrapping a generous portion of dental floss around the index fingers of both your hands and going along every crevice between your teeth, gently moving the floss back and forth. Take care not to push too hard. Some bleeding may occur if you do not floss regularly.
Mouthwash
-
Mouthwash will pick up the remnants that brushing and flossing missed. Dentists recommend rinsing your mouth with about two tablespoons of mouthwash twice a day. Never swallow the mouthwash. You should swish the mouthwash around your mouth for a minute, and then spit it into the sink.
Spearmint and Peppermint
-
Spearmint and peppermint are both helpful herbs to fight bacteria. Many over-the-counter toothpastes, flosses and mouthwashes contain these herbs, because they smell and taste fresh and help maintain overall oral health.
