Natural Ways to Cure Gum Disease in Toddlers

Gum disease is a serious bacterial infection and if left untreated can lead to tooth loss. Restoring your toddler's damaged gums can be done in an easy, natural way. If your toddler is not the victim of a bacterial disease, then your toddler's habits are the cause. Providing your toddler with healthy gums will help to ensure a lifetime of healthy teeth. There are several natural ways to cure and prevent gum disease.
  1. Natural Remedies

    • One remedy is tooth and gum oil. To create this you will need: 10 oz echinacea tincture, 1/4 cup tea tree oil, 4 oz. bayberry tincture, 2 oz. aak gall (or 3x oak bark) tincture, 2 tbsp. cayenne tincture, 2.5 dropperfuls peppermint oil, 2.5 dropperfuls clove oil. Combine these and shake well before use. Add a few dropperfuls of it to the water in a water pik and then use the water pik on your toddler as you normally would.

Some herbal remedies are goldenseal powder, white oak bark powder and myrrh gum powder.

For goldenseal powder, you will need to make your own mouthwash-like substance. The amount you should use is proportioned to the weight of the toddler. Adults take 500-2,000 mg up to three times a day when it is in tablet or capsule form. For standardized extracts of 30 to 120 mg, take up to three times a day. You will need to take one cup of water with 1/4 tsp. salt along with 1/2 tsp. of goldenseal powder. Don't worry too much about it dissolving all the way because it won't. Make sure your toddler rinses and spits it out. This may help heal or minimize gum disease symptoms.

White oak bark powder needs about 1/8 teaspoon to each infected area. Be sure to rinse the toddler's tongue to get rid of the extra powder. Be sure your toddler sleeps with it on his gum line. Do this every night for 30 nights.

With Myrrh gum powder, you will need to rub on the toddler's sore gums as many as three times a day. You should use 1 tsp. with each application.

Saltwater is another natural and soothing cure for gum disease. Have your toddler gargle with saltwater regularly.

    Changing Habits

    • Make sure your toddler does not fall out of the habit of flossing and brushing his teeth. Be sure to get your toddler regular teeth cleanings at his dentist. A good toothpaste to use would be one containing tea tree oil. It has proven antibiotic properties.

Diet can play a big role as well. Make sure your toddler is drinking plenty of water. This will help prevent gum disease. Giving your child plenty of foods rich in vitamin C will help cure and prevent gum diseases. Foods such as oranges, kiwi fruit, mango, strawberries, sweet red peppers, cabbage, tomatoes, broccoli and cantaloupe are all foods that will boost your toddler's vitamin C intake.
