1
Know that braces cause white spots on the teeth when oral hygiene during braces wear has been inadequate. Bacterial plaque accumulating on the teeth will cause white spots around the braces.
-
2
Keep your teeth clean. Brush with a fluoridated toothpaste and floss thoroughly after each meal. Your orthodontist will give you a special floss threader to use around your braces. After you brush and floss, look at your teeth carefully for any missed food particles. In addition, use a fluoride rinse at night before you go to bed. If you are in a place where you can't brush immediately after eating, rinse your mouth out with water.

3
Try not to eat acidic foods or sugary snacks very often. Acidic foods, in addition to carbonated soft drinks, sugars, sticky foods and candies will add damage to your teeth.
-
4
Follow any other instructions that your orthodontist gives you. Your orthodontist has your best interests in mind and knows what you need to do to keep your mouth healthy.
