Different Colors of Braces

Braces are becoming more than just a way to correct and straighten teeth. Many people who wear braces can choose to make them a bit more stylish by having their orthodontist apply colorful ligatures/O-rings. Ligatures are important because they are what keeps the wire on your braces. You do not have to pay an additional fee to have these colorful rings added, it will be included in the overall costs of your braces.

Colors Available

• Expect your orthodontist to have a variety of basic colors to choose from; some orthodontists may have more colors than others. Colors you can expect to see: black, green, red, purple, clear, blue, pink, yellow, orange, white/tooth colored and brown.

  Many orthodontists will have different color shades beyond basic colors. They might also have other types of O-rings available such as glow in the dark or metallic. Ask your orthodontist to see what colors he can put on your braces.

• Consider having your O-rings reflect upcoming events or holidays including Christmas, Halloween or the Fourth of July. Also think about other events, such as your school's homecoming. It is common for many people who wear braces to go with this option as it allows their braces to have a festive look.

Favorite Colors

• Just wearing your favorite color is an easy way to have stylish braces without having to worry about what to choose for different occasions. This will also save you time, as your orthodontist will already know exactly what ligatures to put on.

Discoloration

• Many light-colored O-rings have a tendency to fade faster than others as a result of eating certain foods or smoking. This can result in having green- or orange-colored ligatures, so keep this in mind when making your color decision.

Keep It Simple

• If you would prefer to keep your braces simple, consider going with darker colors such as purple, black or dark blue. This is a good way to keep your smile stylish without having too many bright colors in your mouth.
