How to Fix an Open Bite

An open bite is a medical condition that happens when teeth fail to properly connect--sometimes giving the appearance the mouth is never closed. Typically, it is the upper jaw that protrudes over the lower jaw, but sometimes the patient can have an under bite where the lower jaw extends out beyond the upper jaw. Severe cases of open bite need to be treated by orthodontics and surgery. Open bites are caused by genetics, thumb sucking and/or tongue thrusting.
