Differences Between a Roth & MBT Bracket
In orthodontics, brackets are small pieces of molded metal with extended bits that are attached to the teeth of the patient and used to hold an adjustable wire. Brackets help the dentist straighten the teeth through gradual adjustments.-
Manufacturers
-
Roth brackets are a type of bracket that several different companies manufacture. 3M Corporation has designed and patented MBT brackets and supplies them exclusively.
Attachment
-
Both MBT and Roth brackets attach to the anterior surface of the teeth using a special adhesive dental compound to make the attachment permanent. However, because of a lower profile, MBT brackets can be positioned in more locations without interfering with the teeth.
Design
-
MBT brackets are a newer design than Roth brackets. Whereas Roth brackets have the tension wire wrap around the posts to secure itself, MBT brackets have an additional design that allows the wire to pass through and help prevent occlusion when the jaw is closed. This allows more positioning options with MBT brackets.
