Purchase a bite guard at your local drugstore. Bite guards are found in many drugstores. Sometimes they can be found in a sporting goods section at other retailers. Be sure to choose a size that will be appropriate for the size of your mouth. Bite guards come in small and larger sizes.

Bring a pot of water to a boil on the stove. Place the bite guard in the pan of boiling water for no longer than 30 seconds. Wait five seconds and then immediately place the bite guard in your mouth and bite down firmly. Hold this position for 30 seconds. Bite down completely and do not talk or move your mouth during this time.

Remove the bite guard after 30 seconds and allow it to set and cool for up to an hour at room temperature. Wear the bite guard on a nightly basis to prevent wearing of enamel. Store the bite guard in an airtight container when not being used.
