How to Make Your Own Toothpaste With Peppermint and White Bark Powders

Making your own toothpaste benefits the health of your teeth and gums. Peppermint is famous for freshening breath, and white oak bark is an astringent antiseptic that defends the mouth against bacteria. Baking soda, another important ingredient in many homemade toothpaste recipes, will noticeably whiten your teeth. All of these materials, when mixed together, are part of an effective homemade toothpaste recipe.

Things You'll Need

  • 5 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. white oak bark extract
  • 5 tsp. vegetable glycerin
  • 10 drops peppermint extract
  • Bowl for mixing
  • Wide-mouthed bottle

Instructions

    • 1

Combine five teaspoons baking soda with one-quarter teaspoon white oak bark extract, and five teaspoons vegetable glycerin, in a mixing bowl. Add drops of peppermint extract and stir until the ingredients form a thick paste.

    • 2

Add more vegetable glycerin if necessary, to obtain a more paste-like consistency. Make sure there are no lumps or grit in your toothpaste, as this could potentially damage your tooth enamel, instead of cleaning and strengthening it.

    • 3

Spoon your toothpaste mixture into a wide-mouthed bottle, and close the lid tightly. Your toothpaste is done. Simply unscrew the lid and dip your toothbrush into the bottle every time you brush your teeth.
