How to Brush With Bar Soap
The Columbia News Service of Columbia University claims that a growing interest surrounds the use of lathery soaps to replace ordinary toothpaste. Various brands of detergent-free bar soaps offer powerful cleaning capabilities to your mouth and remove plaque from your teeth. Although the American Dental Association hasn't given approval of commercial teeth soaps, they do stand behind the use of vegetable glycerin as an oral cleanser. This means using a detergent-free bar soap can prove useful in combating enamel loss and gum disease. Knowing how to brush using bar soap isn't a difficult endeavor; it can replace your normal oral hygiene regimen.Things You'll Need
- Detergent-free bar soap
- Toothbrush
- Gentle mouth rinse
Instructions

1
Wet the bristles of your toothbrush under lukewarm running water.
-
2
Sweep the wet bristles along the surface of a detergent-free soap bar. Do this gently so you don't cake lumps of soap on the bristles. You want to achieve a lather, not a gooey mess.
-
3
Apply the lathered bristles of the toothbrush to your teeth and scrub in a vertical motion. Avoid touching the soap to your tongue to keep from having to taste it.
-
4
Brush the crowns of your teeth in circular motions and then the backs of your teeth in the same manner. Gently massage your gum line with the soapy toothbrush.
-
5
Swish some lukewarm water in your mouth for about 30 seconds before spitting it out. Rinse with a gentle, flavored mouth rinse to give your breath a fresh scent.
