Waterpiks allow users to floss with water. They are especially popular with people who hate traditional flossing or have been told by their dentists that they need extra help in flossing. The Waterpik first gained popularity about 20 years ago, and now new designs are available. There are some disadvantages to using a Waterpik.

    • The Waterpik is far more expensive than old-fashioned floss. It is also more expensive than handheld flossing tools. A Waterpik is more of an investment than other flossing products.

    Takes Up Space

    • A Waterpik is likely to be the largest item on your bathroom counter top. The Waterpik Ultra takes up about 10 square inches of space. If you do not have this space on your counter top, you'll have to pull the unit in and out of a closet or other storage each time you use it.

    Leaks

    • Many people who review the Waterpik say that they experience leaks with their units either when they first use them or after they have used them for several weeks. Often they report that the leak cannot be fixed and they have to obtain a new unit.

    Maintenance

    • The Waterpik requires cleaning often. Failure to keep the Waterpik clean can lead to mold.
