How to Clean Teeth With Cavitron

The Cavitron Ultrasonic Cleaner is a high-tech tool that uses sound waves to clean teeth. High-frequency sound waves actually vibrate dirt and tartar right off the teeth. The patient benefits from use of a Cavitron Ultrasonic Cleaner because he can hardly feel the work being done on his mouth. The dentist benefits because of greater productivity and speed in caring for patients, because no anesthetic is needed even for gum work and because the patients feel no pain.

Instructions

  1. Ultrasonic Scaling

    • 1

Hold the Cavitron Ultrasonic hand piece upright and push on the foot pedal until a flow of liquid appears.

    • 2

Lubricate the insert's O-ring with water before putting it into the hand piece. Push and twist it gently into the hand piece. Do not force it.

    • 3

Choose the lowest power setting. Hold the hand piece over a drain and push the foot pedal. Adjust lavage flow. Depress the foot control fully to activate "Boost" mode if more lavage is needed.

    • 4

Use a light touch above and below the gums. Don't let the activated tip stay in one place on the patient's teeth. The activated tip of the Cavitron Ultrasonic Cleaner should remove all tartar.

    • 5

Decrease pressure or move to another tooth if the patient expresses sensitivity or pain. Use a saliva ejector during all procedures.

    Air Polishing with JetShield

    • 6

Install the JetShield Air Polishing Nozzle on the Cavitron Ultrasonic Cleaner. Use the dial to choose the right amount of powder.

    • 7

Apply the cup to the teeth, pivoting to reach distal, gingival, mesial and incisal surfaces. Push the foot control to release more spray, applying spray for two seconds to each segment of each tooth.

    • 8

Dispose of the JetShield assembly after each use, and disinfect all other parts.

    Air Polishing without JetShield

    • 9

Pull the patient's lip out and away from his teeth, and tilt his head toward you. Insert a saliva ejector.

    • 10

Keep the activated tip of the Cavitron 3 to 4 mm away from the tooth. Block the spray with your hand or the patient's lip or cheek.

    • 11

Polish the center third of the front teeth with a constant circular motion. Don't polish near the gums; the spray from the center third area will spread to the gum side of the tooth.

    • 12

Keep the Cavitron at about a 60-degree angle to the front teeth, an 80-degree angle to back teeth and a 90-degree angle to occlusal surfaces.
