How to Remove Stubborn Plaque Buildup on Dental Implants

1
Clean your implants at the same time you clean your other teeth. Once in the morning is good, followed by a longer, more thorough cleaning at night before bed.
-
2
Remove the prosthetic device that holds in your implant. Brush your prosthetic as thoroughly as you would the rest of your teeth. Gently brush the gums where your implant goes. Make sure your care is equally as thorough whether your implant is fixed or permanent. Brush around the implant, as well as in back of it and on as much of the sides as you can reach.

3
Follow your brushing with flossing. Make sure to floss in between all surfaces of your implant and prosthesis, as well as in between all other teeth and gums. This will help in preventing build up and removing plaque that is both unhealthy and can cause odor. A few weeks of flossing not only will remove stubborn plaque, but also will lessen discoloration from food and start to give your gums a healthier look and feel.

Schedule at least two regular checkups with your dental professional every year. Bring any uncomfortable spots to his attention and have routine cleaning done at this time. If your other teeth need to be filled, request that this be done at this time, as well.
