How to Clean With Trident

The Trident suction pool cleaner is an underwater vacuum that keeps your pool free of large debris and settled dirt. This particular automatic cleaner is designed to run as an extension of your pool's filtration system, so it requires no vacuum bags or attachments. Including vacuuming as part of your pool maintenance routine can discourage the growth of algae and other harmful bacteria, decreasing the need for harsh chemical treatments.

Instructions

    • 1

Scoop debris from the pool such as leaves, twigs and bugs that can clog the Trident.

    • 2

Turn off the pool filtration system. Detach the hose and reset the valve to "Close" or "Filter."

    • 3

Run a backwash cycle on your pool by attaching the backwash hose to the filter and set the valve to "Open" or "Backwash." Turn on the filtration system.

    • 4

Shut off the filter and switch the valve to "Rinse" when the water runs clear.

    • 5

Detach the hose and reset the valve to "Close" or "Filter."

    • 6

Clean out the skimmer basket. Twist the cover off of the intake of the filter attached to the side of the pool, remove the basket and empty any debris. Replace the basket.

    • 7

Follow your normal routine for adding chemicals to ensure the pool water is properly balanced.

    • 8

Remove ladders or other objects that could obstruct the movement of the Trident vacuum.

    • 9

Attach one end of the hose to the body of the vacuum. Submerge the body of the Trident in the pool until the suction plate is in contact with the bottom of the pool.

    • 10

Prime the hose by flushing with with water. Hold the free end of the hose up to the pool return jet until air bubbles are no longer ejected from the vacuum head. Keep water in the hose by holding the free end of the hose vertically for the rest of the attachment procedure.

    • 11

Place the vacuum plate into the skimmer so that it fits over the basket with the male hose extension facing upward; this plate is included with your skimmer kit or can be purchased separately.

    • 12

Fit the automatic regulator valve onto the end of the hose. Also, add the hose cone attachment if a vacuum plate is not available for your skimmer.

    • 13

Make sure that the only functioning skimmer is the one attached to the vacuum. Block secondary skimmers with a bypass plate or shut them off by turning the valve into the "Off" or "Closed" position.

    • 14

Fit the end of the hose into the filter plate or insert the hose into the basket so that the hose cone is securely attached to the base of the basket. Ensure the bypass valve is facing downward, resting in the hinge of the skimmer door.

    • 15

Watch the vacuum as it works. Clean the filter basket, replace the filter or backwash when the Trident cleaner becomes slow; this change in speed is due to a clog and needs to be cleared before the vacuum will run smoothly.

    • 16

Disengage the vacuum hose from the filter and remove the Trident from the pool. Don't forget to take off the vacuum plate and bypass plate.

    • 17

Remove large debris from the bottom of the vacuum cleaner. Tip the Trident cleaner on its side and hose off the flapper valve located in the center of the vacuum head.

    • 18

Dismantle the vacuum cleaner hose and store the pieces horizontally, not upright or curled; improper storage can alter the shape of the vacuum components and affect performance.
