How do you treat enamel pearl?
Treatment of Enamel Pearls
Most enamel pearls are small and do not require treatment because they are not thought to cause harm. However, treatment modalities to remove an unsightly or discomforting enamel pearl may include:
- Microabrasion may be used to smooth the surface of the tooth and remove the pearl if it is small. This is a dental procedure that uses a fine abrasive to remove a thin layer of enamel.
- Bonding may be used to cover up the pearl with a tooth-colored material.
- Veneers may be used to cover the entire front surface of the tooth, including the pearl.
- Enameloplasty may be used to remove the pearl and reshape the tooth.
- Extraction may be necessary if the pearl is large and causing problems.
- Prevention
There is currently no known way to prevent enamel pearls, although their prevalence is more likely in individuals who grind their teeth (bruxism).
