Can extractions of teeth cause TMJ?

Tooth extractions are unlikely to cause TMJ, also known as temporomandibular joint disorder. TMJ is a condition characterized by pain, clicking or popping sounds, and difficulty in jaw movement. It is often caused by factors such as genetics, muscle tension, arthritis, or injury to the joint. While the extraction of teeth may temporarily alter the bite or jaw alignment, it does not typically lead to the development of TMJ.
