How to Brush Teeth With Ice Water

Plaque is a thin layer of bacteria that coats the teeth, resulting in cavities. Brushing your teeth between two and three times a day diminishes plaque buildup and improves the overall health of your teeth. Brushing can use up to an estimated 36 gallons of water per person on any given day, and it can be unsafe while traveling in developing nations. Ice must by law be purified, even in developing countries. So, no matter where you are in the world, brushing your teeth with ice water provides a cool and environmentally friendly way to practice oral hygiene.

Put ice cubes in your eight-ounce glass of water; let stand for about one minute. Dip your toothbrush into your glass of ice water; then apply toothpaste to your moistened toothbrush.

    • 2

Ease the toothbrush into your mouth, going slowly to give your teeth time to adjust to the cold. Brush your teeth in an up-and-down or circular motion for between one and two minutes. Brush your tongue as well, to remove bacteria and improve the smell of your breath.

    • 3

Spit your foamy toothpaste out. Take a mouthful of the ice water into your mouth and swish, then spit. Dip your used toothbrush into the ice water to clean; swirl it around in the water to remove all toothpaste and bacteria. Throw out the used water and put your toothbrush in a safe place.
