Home Whitening Treatments

There are home treatments and remedies that whiten teeth just as well as the expensive dental office whitening treatments. So avoid a costly trip to the dentist and whiten your teeth at home. It is important, however; to consult with a physician before embarking on home treatments.
  1. Aloe Vera

    • Aloe vera is very versatile in home treatments, including teeth whitening. Use aloe sap to brush teeth for a whiter appearance. Aloe vera whitens the teeth while also fighting bacteria.

    Baking Soda Treatments

    • Baking soda is a natural whitener. It is also non-abrasive and safe for the teeth. Mix equal parts of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide---also a natural whitener---and brush teeth to produce pearly whites. Baking soda can also be equally mixed with any brand of toothpaste to clean and whiten teeth.

Make a paste of baking soda and your toothpaste of choice and spread on a piece of aluminum foil. Cover teeth in aluminum foil encased with this mixture and leave for an hour. After an hour, brush teeth as you normally would. Perform this procedure at least twice a week for whiter teeth.

    Brushing and General Upkeep

    • To maintain bright teeth, simply brush your teeth. Brushing teeth regularly two to three times a day, especially after meals, will contribute to white teeth. Along with brushing your teeth regularly, also try to avoid excessively consuming coffee, tea, red wine and carbonated drinks. Smoking also contributes to teeth stains. It is beneficial to cut back on smoking or quit altogether. Also, avoid drinks that are too hot or too cold.

    Other Home Treatments

    • Warm salt water gargles contribute to a healthy mouth, including promoting whiter teeth. Fresh squeezed lemon drops applied to your toothbrush is another home remedy for tooth whitening. Be careful with overuse of lemon juice, however; as lemon juice is acidic and using too much may harm tooth enamel. A couple lemon drops will do fine.
