1
Brush your teeth. Many toothpastes contain special ingredients that help whiten your teeth, if the discoloration isn't too extreme. Some of these will state that they have teeth whitening-abilities, while others are specially formulated to remove stains. Brushing will also help remove unwanted and unsightly tartar.

2
Apply teeth-whitening strips. The strips can be picked up at any store which sells toothpaste. They stick to the teeth and are made for extended wear. Read the package to find out how long you're supposed to wear that specific brand. It's often recommended that you wear the strips overnight.

3
Swish with a mouthwash. A good mouthwash can help remove stains from your teeth, along with preventing cavities and removing tartar buildup. You can use mouthwash in combination with brushing and teeth-whitening strips.

Bleach your teeth. This can be done at home or at a dentist's office. A plastic tray will be filled with a bleaching agent and put on your teeth, where it will have to remain for a few minutes. The formula used by the dentist is generally more concentrated and will result in more stains being removed.

5
Floss. Flossing can remove tartar and any food particles that may be stuck between your teeth. It is recommended that you floss after you brush.
