How to Get Rid of Coffee Stains From Dentures

Dentures are made of a type of plastic and thus are more prone to staining than the natural enamel of teeth. Coffee stains can make dentures look old and unsightly. Coffee stains on dentures can not be eliminated completely at home, but effective stain-removal methods exist for minimizing coffee stains on dentures.   Remove all food particles from your dentures. Food particles contribute to further staining. Use a small to medium-headed toothbrush with an angled head and soft bristles. The soft bristles are safe on your gums and soft tissue. Brush in a circular motion with particular attention to between the teeth. Floss with a gentle downward motion taking care to not jerk the floss out from between your teeth.

  Brush and soak with over-the-counter denture pastes and solutions that do not contain bleach. Bleach harms the lining of your gums and soft tissue. Use products with the ADA seal of approval on the label. Do not use extremely hot water to clean your dentures as the heat will harm the metal supports in your dentures.

  Every day, follow a regime of brushing, then soaking, then brushing. Household cleaners such as mild detergents are safe to use in a pinch, but avoid powdered cleaning products, which scratch the dentures.

  For more stubborn stains, see your dentist. Many dentists use an ultrasonic cleaning chamber filled with a solution. Sonic cleaning products are available for purchase. Ask your dentist about home use.
