Should You Brush Your Teeth After Using Nite White?

Nite White is a dentist-approved home bleaching solution that can be applied directly to the teeth. Before beginning any at-home teeth whitening procedure, it is important to read and understand the instructions completely. You will need to know how to apply the product and how long to leave it on for, as well as what procedures need to be followed after using Nite White.
  1. The Facts

    • Nite White is a teeth whitening solution that features carbamide peroxide as the active ingredient. Nite White is one of only a few whitening products that have been given the Seal of Acceptance by the American Dental Association.

In the solution, the carbamide peroxide breaks down into hydrogen peroxide, which acts as an oxygenating agent on your teeth. The oxygen helps break down deposits lodged on your teeth, clearing them of surface stains. While the structure of your teeth will not be changed by the solution, the surface of your teeth should become lighter.

    Application

    • Before using the bleaching trays, brush and floss your teeth thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of whitening gel into the tray, from one end to the other. It is extremely important not to overfill the tray; excess whitening solution may cause extreme sensitivity. Insert the tray securely into your mouth, with the tray pressed closely to your teeth. If any excess gel gets onto your gums, wipe it off gently with your finger. Leave the tray in for two to three hours.

    Removal

    • After two to three hours, you will need to remove the whitening trays from your mouth. Rinse your mouth completely with cool water and brush away any excess amounts of gel. Next, you will need to rinse the trays and fill them with a professional fluoride treatment. Reinsert the trays for another two to five minutes.

After removing the fluoride trays, it is extremely important to brush your teeth thoroughly and rinse away all remaining fluoride with cool water. Swallowing excessive fluoride may be harmful.

    Daily Care

    • To avoid re-staining your teeth, avoid dark-colored beverages, such as coffee, tea, dark colas and red wine. If you do consume these beverages, use a straw. You should also avoid cigarettes and chewing tobacco. It is essential to brush and floss your teeth at least once daily, but preferably after every meal. Visit your dentist regularly for dental cleanings to ensure whiter and healthier teeth.

    Side Effects

    • The Nite White Solution may cause discomfort to the teeth, gums, lips or throat. If you experience these symptoms, try shortening the length of time the trays are in your mouth. If symptoms are excessive or last longer than two days, consult your local dentist.

Nite White may also cause increased sensitivity to cold, heat or pressure. If you do develop sensitivity, switch to a toothbrush with soft bristles. Use toothpaste formulated specifically for sensitive teeth, or brush your teeth with baking soda for 30 to 60 seconds.
