Homemade Teeth Whitening With Peroxide & Baking Soda

People spend bundles of money on over-the-counter tooth whitening formulas that may or may not work for them. A tooth whitening formula from a dentist can cost even more. Create your own tooth whitening concoction using a few household items that are also assured to be good for you. It works for most people, depending on how the severity of your teeth stains.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 tsp. toothpaste
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • Toothbrush
  • 1/2 tsp. water
  • 1 cup hydrogen peroxide
  • Mouthwash
  • Pinch of salt
  • Spoon
  • Small bowl
  • Strawberry pulp

Instructions

  1. Homemade Teeth Whitening

    • 1

      Squeeze 1 tsp. of toothpaste into a small sauce dish. Add 1/2 cup tsp. of baking soda. Stir the paste with a silver knife until it is fully blended.

      Moisten your toothbrush with water. Dab your toothbrush into the mix.

      Create your own baking soda toothpaste by placing 1 tsp. of baking soda into another small sauce dish and adding about a 1/2 tsp. of water.

      Stir until it becomes pasty. Dip your toothbrush into the mix and apply it to your teeth.

      Rinse your mouth out thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide after using baking soda to cleanse your mouth. Baking soda obviously leaves a bad aftertaste and can be abrasive to enamel.

      Use just plain water or mouthwash to wash out the peroxide aftertaste.

      Repeat the method once a week.

    Other Formulas

      Add a pinch of salt to your baking soda and water toothpaste creation. Use this if your teeth are extra yellow and need a stronger formula to brighten your pearly whites.

      Rinse with water or mouthwash again to wash out the salty aftertaste.

      Mash a strawberry to a pulp with a spoon in a small bowl.

      Apply and stir in the strawberry pulp to your baking soda and water toothpaste creation for flavor so you override the baking soda taste. Experiment with other fruit flavors you may like such as apple or even citrus. Don’t use chocolate or anything with sugar.

      Rinse thoroughly with water after using the strawberry mix since acid and seeds from the strawberries could cause gum problems over time.
