White Teeth
-
Crest's website claims that for whitening alone, Crest Vivid White is its best available paste. It whitens and protects against the formation of new stains. Crest guarantees "whiter teeth in just 14 days" with this product. No outside endorsements could be found for Vivid White.
Tartar Control
-
Crest has many toothpastes that promise whitening as well as tartar control. Whitening Expressions, Crest Extra White Plus Scope Outlast and Crest Pro-Health Whitening toothpastes all claim to fight tartar, protect against cavities and "bring out the natural color of the teeth," as stated on Crest's website. Each of these pastes has its own individual benefit, such as choice of flavor, breath freshener and tooth sensitivity protection. In its August 2006, issue, "Consumer Reports" rated toothpastes; Crest whitening and tartar protection pastes ranked "very good to good stain removal." Of the 41 brands that "Consumer Reports" tested, the Crest brands were in the top third. The American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs endorses Crest Tartar Protection Toothpaste on its packaging.
Whitening Strips
-
Crest Whitestrips have been developed for consumers who want teeth that are whiter than toothbrushing can provide. These thin, flexible strips contain a peroxide gel that Crest claims is the same used by dentists. The strips cover the front and back of teeth and can be worn anywhere comfortably.
Whitestrips Claims
-
Crest offers several teeth-whitening systems. For the whitest smile, Crest recommends Whitestrips Pro Effects. Crest guarantees that for two other choices, Whitestrips Premium will produce results in seven days as opposed to 14 days needed for the Whitestrips Classic variety. The company claims that its Advanced Seal strips stay securely on teeth, allowing you to drink water. Crest's Whitestrips website states that with these strips, you will see whiter teeth in three days. Whitestrips Daily is for sensitive teeth and requires only a five-minute, once-a-day application. "Consumer Reports" in its August 2009 issue, ranked Crest Whitestrips Supreme to be the winner when compared with eight comparable products. Whitestrips Premium and Advanced Seal are ranked third and fourth place out of eight with a "good" rating.
Recognitions

The American Dental Association (ADA) confirmed that Crest effectively prevented tooth decay in 1960. It went on to award Crest's Pro-Health Toothpaste the Seal of Acceptance for its pursuit of perfect oral health. The ADA continues to endorse Crest's Pro-Health toothpaste. The back of the tube states, "The ADA Council on Scientific Affairs' acceptance of Crest Pro-Health toothpaste is based on its finding that the product is effective in helping to prevent tooth decay, plaque. . .and to whiten teeth by removing surface stains when used as directed." In 1976, The American Chemical Society reported Crest's fluoride toothpaste was one of the 100 greatest discoveries of the century. Crest partnered with "The Scientific American" magazine in 2006, presenting health-care models linking oral health and whole body wellness.
