Homemade Tooth Whitener
Whitening your teeth at home is an affordable way to get a brighter smile. Homemade remedies can be effective in giving you whiter teeth. While the results won't be as dramatic as having a dentist bleach your teeth, these home remedies will show a noticeable improvement. Teeth whitening methods really just remove stains from your teeth caused by cigarettes, beverages, medications, food debris and other substances. Bleaches remove the surface stains so your teeth appear whiter.-
Using Hydrogen Peroxide
-
The main ingredient in teeth whitening toothpastes, whitening strips and whitening gels is hydrogen peroxide. Peroxide is a well-known bleaching agent used for many purposes, from bleaching hair to bleaching paper. The hydrogen peroxide sold in supermarkets has a low solution of just 3 to 3.5 percent. This is the level approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Higher concentrations are found in commercial teeth-whitening products. Dentists are able to use even higher concentrations of peroxide-based substances. At home, use your toothbrush and brush a small amount of hydrogen peroxide on your teeth. Do this every day until you see improvement.
Using Items in Your Refrigerator
-
Another way to remove stains from the teeth is to use mild acids often used in cooking. Vinegars have ascetic acid that can gently clean the surface of the teeth. Apple cider vinegar and white vinegar both contain the acid. Another natural acid is citric acid. The chemical is found in lemon juice, lime juice and grapefruit juice. Any of these juices can remove stains from tooth enamel. To use any of these products, simply apply the liquid to your teeth with a toothbrush. If the vinegar or lemon juice is too strong, you can add water to dilute them before brushing your teeth.
Creating Homemade Teeth-Whitening Pastes
-
Abrasive products are good for whitening the teeth. The tiny particles penetrate the enamel and deep clean the teeth by removing stains. Many dentists recommend cleaning the teeth with a paste made of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Water also can be used instead of peroxide. Salt is another good abrasive product. Adding water to the salt will make a good teeth-whitening paste. Another option is to use lemon juice with the salt. After making the paste, use a toothbrush and brush it on your teeth.
