How to Clean Blueberry Stains From False Teeth

Denture wearers can find themselves terrified of epicurean delights like blueberry muffins, blueberry pie and of course, fresh blueberries. Because denture materials differ from tooth enamel, the powerfully purple juice that streams from blueberries makes its mark on denture wearers' pearly whites. Don't worry, it's fixable. Simple home remedies usually do the job, but when they don't, your dentist has tools that can help.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

Brush your dentures. Brushing is not only the first line of defense against stains, but something you should do twice a day anyway. If a manual toothbrush isn't getting results, try an electric rotary or sonic toothbrush, which offer thousands of brushstrokes per minute, making them better able to remove stains.

    • 2

Soak your dentures overnight using an over-the-counter denture cleaner. Special chemicals and effervescence help remove stains and debris. Most name brand products will do the job.

    • 3

Apply a resin-based denture polishing cream. Denture whitening pastes are available in drugstores and supermarkets. Resins essentially covers stains rather than remove them.

    • 4

Soak your dentures for five minutes in household bleach if you have acrylic dentures. Afterward, rinse them very thoroughly. You don't want any bleach residue in your mouth. Do not try this with porcelain, plastic or resin dentures, or if you don't know the material from which your dentures are made.

Bring your dentures to your dentist who can clean them using ultrasonic cleaning machines and polishers. Dentist's powerful and sophisticated machines can even remove the microscopic blueberry particles discoloring your dentures. Although it might not be your cheapest option, getting a dentist's help is always your safest and most certain.
