Why do the white of your eyes turn yellow when you drink?

The white of the eyes, also known as the sclera, does not turn yellow from drinking alcohol. The yellowing of the sclera is typically a sign of an underlying medical condition, such as jaundice, which is caused by a buildup of bilirubin, a yellow pigment produced when red blood cells are broken down. Jaundice can be a symptom of liver disease, gallbladder disease, or certain infections, and should be evaluated by a doctor. Alcohol consumption can affect the liver, but it is not the sole cause of yellowing of the eyes.
