Do you have a disease if cold sores on the mouth?

Cold sores, also known as fever blisters, are small, fluid-filled blisters that typically develop on the lips, chin, or inside the mouth. They are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and are contagious. Although cold sores can be uncomfortable and unsightly, they are not considered a disease. The majority of people with HSV-1 only experience mild symptoms and do not require medical treatment. In some cases, however, cold sores can be more severe and may require medication to manage the symptoms.
