Where does the trachea extend to?

The trachea, also known as the windpipe, is a tube-like structure that serves as the primary pathway for air to enter and exit the lungs during breathing. It extends from the larynx (voice box) in the neck down to the level of the fifth thoracic vertebra in the chest.

Just before reaching the level of the fifth thoracic vertebra, the trachea divides into two smaller tubes called the left and right primary bronchi. These primary bronchi then enter the respective left and right lungs, further branching into smaller bronchi and bronchioles to deliver air to various regions within the lungs.
