What is nasal bone fx-closed?
Nasal bone fracture (closed)
A closed nasal bone fracture is a break in one or both of the nasal bones that does not involve an open wound. This type of fracture is often caused by a direct blow to the nose, such as from a fist, elbow, or sports equipment.
Symptoms of a closed nasal bone fracture include:
* Pain and tenderness in the nose
* Swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes
* Difficulty breathing through the nose
* A crooked nose
* A nasal discharge that may be clear, bloody, or both
Treatment for a closed nasal bone fracture typically involves:
* Rest and ice
* Pain relievers
* Antibiotics to prevent infection
* Nasal decongestants to help with breathing
* Surgery to realign the nasal bones and correct any damage to the septum (the cartilage that divides the nasal cavity into two sides)
Most closed nasal bone fractures heal completely within a few weeks. However, some fractures may require surgery to correct the damage.
