Should you worry about food getting stuck in the socket where your wisdom teeth were pulled?
To prevent food from getting stuck in the socket, it is important to:
- Rinse your mouth with warm salt water several times a day.
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean the area around the socket.
- Avoid eating hard, crunchy, or sticky foods.
- Cut food into small pieces and chew it thoroughly.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
If food does get stuck in the socket, it is important to remove it as soon as possible. You can do this by:
- Gently rinsing your mouth with warm salt water.
- Using a cotton swab to gently dislodge the food.
- If the food is still stuck, you can contact your dentist or oral surgeon for help.
