Foods With Vanadyl Sulfate
Vanadyl sulfate is a supplement primarily used by bodybuilders. Vanadyl sulfate occurs naturally in vanadium, a trace mineral found in many foods. Scientists have not determined if vanadium is an essential mineral for health or the exact benefits of the substance, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Some studies indicate that vanadium may reduce blood sugar levels and improve sensitivity to insulin in people with Type 1 and 2 diabetes, as well as lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure.-
Food Sources
-
Two of the best food sources of vanadium and thus vanadyl sulfate, are mushrooms and shellfish, as noted by the UMMC. Other foods containing vanadium include radishes, eggs and vegetable oils and according to veterinarian and certified naturopath Denice Moffat, meat, seafood, gelatin, olives, snap beans and soy also contain vanadium.
Herbs and Spices
-
A few herbs and spices are sources of vanadium including black pepper, parsley and dill weed.
Grains and Beverages
-
Grains and whole grain products contain vanadyl sulfate in the form of vanadium. People looking to consume foods with this substance might choose to eat cereals, corn, buckwheat, oats, and whole grain bread. Beverages containing vanadyl sulfate include beer and wine.
