How Do Alpha Track Monitors Work?
Diabetes is a growing issue not only for people but also for their pets. Dogs and cats sometimes succumb to diabetes and must have their blood sugar levels measured as a result. With the AlphaTRAK Monitor, you have the option of monitoring your pet's blood glucose levels without having to go to the vet.-
Getting the Sample
-
When you get the AlphaTRAK glucose measuring kit, you will notice that it has several components. One of the important components that comes with the kit is a collection of lancets. The lancet is a tiny device similar to a scalpel, with a sharp edge on two sides. You use this device to collect a blood sample from your pet when it is time to test. You simply prick the animal's skin and get a tiny bit of blood.
Inserting the Strip
-
Once you get a blood sample from your pet, you need to insert a testing strip into the AlphaTRAK monitor device. On the end of the AlphaTRAK, you will notice a small slit. Place the end of the testing strip into the slit. Once the strip is in the device, turn it on and see what code is displayed on the monitor. If the code does not match the code on your strip, cycle through the codes by pressing on the "m" or "c" button to move up or down through the list.
Using the Blood
-
Once the testing strip has been placed into the monitoring device, you need to put the animal's blood on it. Dip the end of the testing strip into the animal's blood. As soon as the blood has been placed on the testing strip, the AlphaTRAK monitoring system will go to work and analyze the blood glucose level. Within a few seconds, it should give you a blood glucose reading on the digital output at the top of the device.
Considerations
-
Using the AlphaTRAK device regularly can help you keep up with your pet's blood sugar levels. The monitor can be used as many times as you want, but you should not use the device too often. You will need to continue purchasing testing strips and new lancets from the AlphaTRAK provider in order to continue testing your pet's blood sugar levels. As long as you have those supplies, you should be able to keep testing.
