What Is the TrimSpa Weight-Loss Diet?

TrimSpa is a dietary supplement taken either in pill or chewable form that is marketed to aid weight loss. TrimSpa does not endorse a specific diet or eating plan. The program consists only of the pills you ingest. TrimSpa pills and chewables contain several active ingredients that act as stimulants and may act as appetite suppressants. As of December 2009, there have been no conclusive clinical trials or results to prove the claim that TrimSpa works in the way it claims.

  1. What is in TrimSpa?

    • TrimSpa contains active ingredients such as caffeine, cocoa extract, green tea, vanadium, glucosamine, and chromium, which can aid in glucose regulation. These ingredients are well-known stimulants that increase energy (through caffeine) and metabolism (through green tea). While caffeine gives a feeling of more energy it also causes a crash after its effects wear off. TrimSpa also contains Hoodia Gordonii, a cacti-related plant native to South Africa. It is said that native people of South Africa used Hoodia to control their appetite on long hunting parties. TrimSpa used to contain ephedra, but no longer does since it was banned by the FDA.

    Dosage and Cost

    • TrimSpa makes more than one weight-loss dietary supplement and its dosages vary depending on the product. The Chocolate Hoodia Supplement, a chewable, should be taken six times per day for maximum appetite control with plenty of water. The TrimSpa X32 supplement, a regular pill, should be taken four times daily: two in the morning, one in the middle of the day and one at night. The lowest daily dosage is three capsules; the daily maximum amount is six capsules. The pills are designed to supplement an already healthy diet and exercise lifestyle to enhance weight loss. TrimSpa products cost between $12 and $30 per bottle.

    TrimSpa Side Effects

    • Always consult a doctor before taking any medication or supplements--dietary, herbal or otherwise. Make sure you notify your doctor of any heart problems, anxiety, blood pressure issues, glaucoma or pregnancy. Because of the stimulants in TrimSpa, preexisting anxiety or heart problems could become worse. Side effects can include headaches, jitters, insomnia, nervousness and increased urination.
