When to Use Hydroxycut for Best Results?
Hydroxycut is a popular line of products designed to promote weight loss, increase energy and aid bodybuilders and other appearance and performance-conscious people. Though recently recalled in May 2009, they have been released again with new formulations on the market and are again popular. If you are interested in taking Hydroxycut products, you should know how and when to take them.-
Manufacturer's Recommendations
-
The manufacturers of Hydroxycut products, Muscletech, include recommendations for when to take each of their products on the label. For example, the label on Hydroxycut Advanced (their most widely marketed product) advises you to take two caplets with 8 oz. of water three times daily and take it approximately 30 to 60 minutes before meals. It also advises a calorie-reduced diet, regular exercise, no snacking after dinner, and lots of water.
Other Considerations
-
One thing to consider about taking weight loss products like Hydroxycut is that those claims of energy and metabolism boosts are based on the high levels of caffeine in the products. For example, Hydroyxcut Hardcore X claims to contain 300 mg of caffeine per serving, and the label calls for two servings a day. (That's 600 mg, the equivalent to almost a liter of Starbucks coffee each day.) If you are going to take a product like Hydroxycut, or any other supplement for weight loss, take your last dose hours before you plan to go to bed. Muscletech suggests not taking any of their product five hours before bed. Also be aware that you might experience a caffeine crash in the evenings.
Remember that weight loss products often seem to work not because of their ingredients, but because of how they are taken. For example, drinking a large amount of water before eating (which the directions on Hydroxycut Advanced advise), will make you feel fuller and thus you are likely to eat less. Taking any form of caffeine prior to working out has also been shown to help people work out better. A calorie-reduced diet, regular exercise, limited snacking, and plenty of water (especially before meals) are all likely to produce weight loss, regardless of the ingredients in the supplement.
Warnings
-
Hydroxycut is a supplement. As a supplement, it is regulated under a certain set of rules by the FDA, which means that it has not been approved for weight loss or any of the other claims it makes, nor has it been approved for safety. The FDA only investigates supplement makers as problems arise, which means that unsafe products can, and often do, make it to the shelf without any safety checks. In May 2009, the FDA issued a recall of Hydroxycut products because they were shown to cause serious liver injury and resulted in a transplant, liver failure, and the death of one person. Hydroxycut products now on the market are not the same as those in the recall, but that does not mean they are necessarily safe. As always, discuss all supplements you are taking with your doctor.
