Fresh Fruit Diet
The fresh fruit diet, also known as the fruit flush or detox diet, was introduced by nutritionist Jay Robb in a best-selling book by the same name. In order to lose weight, dieters must consume protein shakes and large amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables.-
Features
-
The fresh fruit diet is designed to last for three days. In order for the diet to be effective, on the first day, dieters must consume five protein shakes, up to six cups of fruits and vegetables and a protein such as egg whites or chicken breast. The menu for the second and third days consists entirely of fruits and vegetables and one protein shake.
Popular Beliefs
-
The fresh fruit diet promises weight loss up to 10 pounds in three days. Dieters consider the fresh fruit diet to be safer than other fad diets because it allows for copious amounts of fruits and vegetables naturally rich in vitamins. Dieters report feeling more energized while following the diet.
Warnings
-
Health care professionals warn that diets as high in fruit and vegetables as recommended by Jay Robb may be hard on the digestive system. Before starting the diet, diabetics are encouraged to speak to their health care providers because of the high sugar content found in fruit. Physical exercise is not recommended while on the diet because of low calorie intake. When comparing results, dieters are encouraged to take into account that total weight loss amounts differ from person to person.
