Acai Berry Disadvantages

Acai berries are high in antioxidants, are nearly 42 percent fiber, and contain a high level of Omega 3, 6 and 9 fats. They are consumed in the form of pill supplements and juices as a means of suppressing appetite. Although the berries themselves are considered a natural dietary supplement, they have their disadvantages as well.
  1. Perishable

    • Acai berries grow in the Amazon rain forest and can spoil up to 24 hours after they have been harvested off the tree. After harvesting, the berries are freeze-dried and reconstituted with water to make juice.

    Increased Reaction to Pollen

    • When eaten in moderate amounts, acai berries are safe. If you have pollen allergies or are hypersensitive to similar berries, you may want to avoid acai berries.

    Diarrhea

    • As with eating any fruit (such as grapes, apples or oranges), you may get a slight case of diarrhea if you consume too much.
