Mega Green Tea Diet

New diet plans and products regularly flood the market offering to answer the prayers of those fighting the battle of the bulge. Claims include raising the body's metabolism and suppressing appetite. Joining the club of diet plans, the "Mega Green Tea Diet" has gained popularity among weight loss hopefuls. Differing opinions exist, however, on the effectiveness of this product.
  1. Claims

    • Evaluate the claims made by product retailers. The premise of green tea diets consist of diet, exercise and the addition of green tea supplements to assist in the weight loss process. While there are several green tea diet supplement products on the market, the most prevalent brand is Mega-T Green Tea Diet Supplement.

According to a report by Sensational.com, a website that specializes in weight-loss product reviews, the main ingredient in the Mega-T Green Tea supplement is green tea, but the supplements also contains hoodia, eleuthero root extract, fo ti Root, garcinia fruit Extract, guarana seed extract, bladderwrack kelp and gotu kola.

While websites selling this product, such as Mega-diet.com, claim that it enables the body to burn more belly fat, cubs appetite and raises metabolism, Sensational.com's findings point out that a careful reading of the site shows no significant weight loss claims, but instead suggests the product is an addition to diet and exercise. In essence, while additional benefit from the green tea supplement is implied, no actual claim or proof of additional weight loss because of the product exists.

    Benefits

    • Learn the benefits of the plans. For example, Medical News Today describes green tea as a beneficial supplement in fighting several kinds of cancer. Green tea also may reduce the risk of heart disease and fatty liver disease.

    Expert Opinions

    • Find out what the experts are saying. For example, The Mayo Clinic warns that while makers of green tea diet pills claim that their product increases the body's ability to burn calories and fat while reducing appetite, very little evidence exists to support these claims. Additionally, the product can cause significant gastrointestinal upset including vomiting and diarrhea. Users of green tea pills should also take note that many of these products also contain large quantities of caffeine. The Food and Drug Administration never substantiated the claims made by Mega Green Tea Diet.

WrongDiagnosis.com discusses studies performed by Oregon State University, the University of Connecticut, and the Journal of Nutrition indicating that green tea may cause bone weakness. In laboratory studies of mice, those consuming green tea extract lost mineral content and thickness of the examined bones. However, these studies do not prove conclusively that a similar effect will occur in people.

The National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine believes that, despite the claims, adequate proof to substantiate the claim that green tea diets help in weight loss does not yet exist.
